Indigenous Performing Arts Project @ SEA

The new, exciting and innovative, Wanginining Koorts, meaning Talking Hearts, Indigenous Performing Arts Project, has finally come to fruition. The project has developed over several years, with discussions and consultations with local and regional agencies, Noongar Community members, Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company & Southern Edge Arts.

The Indigenous Performing Arts ‘mission’ is to: Promote, Preserve & Protect our Noongar Culture and Heritage using the performing arts mediums of Story-Telling, Dance, Music & song.

Newly appointed Project Manager, Gillian Woods, is a young local Noongar woman from Albany though, grew up in Gnowangerup, Katanning and surrounding regions. Gillian is well known to the Albany community, through her past employment at numerous Aboriginal agencies, local retail & hospitality businesses and participation in local sporting associations. Therefore has a strong networking relationship with the community.

Gillian will be working in partnership with local Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal agencies and Noongar Artists, across the Great Southern region and through this, build stronger relationships to develop support mechanisms and avenues for the Noongar Youth to engage in ‘performing arts’ workshops.

Gillian will develop, organise, coordinate and facilitate ‘unique workshops’ built for Noongar youth to participate, to learn more bout themselves and their culture through ‘performing arts’.
